Lanyon Cluster Teaching and Learning Projects HomeThis is a featured page

Welcome to our site which is about action research in a professional learning community of teachers in the Lanyon Cluster of Schools in ACT, Australia.

In 2012 teachers from Bonython Primary School, Gordon Primary School and Lanyon High School are participating in a range of action research projects, with our main Cluster project of Connecting through Giving. Our teachers and students are also participating in a trial of Scholar, developed by the University of Illinois and Common Ground Publishing.Scholar is an online writing space in which students write, receive and give feedback, and publish their work.

Through this wiki we plan to share student data, reflect on our students' learning, comment on our colleagues' posts, synthesise how our teaching impacts on student learning, and link to other resources, including our learning designs.

In 2010 teachers from Bonython Primary School, Charles Conder Primary School, Gordon Primary School and Lanyon High School also recorded their action research projects on this site; our Cluster focus project was a Becoming Asia Literate project, Kaizen: Global Connections.Other 2010 projects focused on literacy and numeracy as well as assessment for learning, engagement and belonging, values, sustainability and science.

Each project in 2012 has its own page so go there first to see the latest on your project and to post data, reflections and comments. You are also very welcome to look at other projects' pages to see how the action research is going and post comments on any work that interests you.

I have noticed that the children who experience a different culture at home are far more in tune with the project. It is those children who have a different perspective to culture who seem to be taking the initiative to lean more and engage in conversation with friends. I can only assume it is because they have been introduced to multiple cultures and value that diversity.
